Josh Stemle: Hi, I'm Josh Stemle with the Stokes Stemle Law Firm, and today we're going to talk about a little bit of, how long is this case going to take?
0:10 - 0:18
Josh Stemle: That's a question that almost everybody asks right off the bat, and the answer is, it depends. There's a lot of variables here about how long
0:18 - 0:22
Josh Stemle: a case will take from the accident date to when we get the actual settlement or a jury verdict.
0:22 - 0:27
[Transition to a dark blue screen with a hexagon containing scales of justice. Text appears: "How Long Is My Case Going to Take?"]
Josh Stemle: The biggest one is obviously your medical treatment.
0:27 - 0:31
[Image of a man with a bandaged arm in a sling sitting on a couch.]
Josh Stemle: How badly are you injured? Are you quickly released from the hospital on the first day and they say you're good to go?
0:31 - 0:41
[Images: X-rays and medical charts, doctor helping woman with a walker, man in a hospital bed with a doctor.]
Josh Stemle: Or do you require months of treatment, physical therapy, surgeries, etc.? All those things can have a big effect on how long your case is going to take to get to completion.
0:41 - 0:45
[Shot of two men in suits discussing at a desk. Text overlay: "The Negotiation Process"]
Josh Stemle: The next part is the negotiation process. And this is where we start collecting your bills
0:45 - 0:56
[Images: Stack of papers (text: "BILLS & RECORD"), woman taking a photo of a car accident (text: "PICTURES FROM THE ACCIDENT"), hands calculating with receipts and a calculator (text: "LOST WAGES & MORE"), hands passing a document across a table (text: "A Demand").]
Josh Stemle: and records, pictures from the accident, lost wages, out-of-pocket expenses. We put all that together in what we call a demand. And this is literally where we make a demand for payment from the insurance companies.
0:56 - 1:03
Josh Stemle: So we put this, and we review it with you, and decide what are we going to ask for from the insurance company and what can we expect.
1:03 - 1:12
[Shot of two men and a woman in a business meeting.]
Josh Stemle: Now, all negotiations are different. Some go slow, some go fast. But what we're not going to do is sacrifice the value of your case to try to settle it before it's ready.
1:12 - 1:25
Josh Stemle: So we'll tell you, "Hey, I think your case is worth a little more. We probably need to go a little bit further and push a little bit to get these insurance companies to pay you what your case is worth." Because we're not going to sacrifice the value of your claim in order to get your case settled first.
1:25 - 1:31
[Animation of calendar pages flipping quickly.]
Josh Stemle: Now, sometimes negotiations stall and we get to the point where they're not offering enough money.
1:31 - 1:44
[Close-up of a hand signing a document. Text overlay: "Litigation Process"]
Josh Stemle: And at that point, we need to go into litigation. And that's where we file a lawsuit, and we'll do another video on that that you can find. But that's a whole another process. But the short answer for this video purposes is six months to a year.
1:44 - 1:50

Josh Stemle: So if you've been injured in a car accident and you're having questions about how long you think it will take, the easiest thing to do is to call myself
1:50 - 1:56
Josh Stemle: or my law partner, Jonathan Stokes, at 334-316-4123.
